Categories

Hip Hop: Any routine consisting primarily of Hip Hop, Street or Contemporary Jazz-Funk technique.

Musical Theater: Any routine that interprets a song or dance from a Broadway show, movie or musical.

Jazz: Any routine that consists of jazz movements and technique.

Tap: Any routine that contains tap technique. No tap sounds are allowed in music.

Ballet: Any routine that consists of classical ballet movements, steps and technique performed in ballet slippers.

Pointe: Any routine with classical pointe/toe technique performed in pointe shoes.

Lyrical: Any routine that utilizes extension, control, strength, balance and emotion to convey lyrical style (no pointe shoes).

Modern: Any routine that utilizes modern styles, steps, and technique.

Song & Dance: Any routine that contains both singing and movement. Performers in this category will be judged based on both movement and singing ability. The Song & Dance category will be judged with the vocal category, as a separate division.  A cordless microphone & mic stand will be provided for soloists.

Vocal: Any routine that primarily consists of singing technique. The vocal category will be judged as a separate division with its own high point awards. Not eligible for Title. A cordless microphone & mic stand will be provided. Not eligible for Title Award.

Acrobatic Dance: Majority of routine must be acrobatic moves incorporated with dance choreography. 

Pom Pon: Any routine that incorporates the use of pom pons into at least 75% of the performance. The routine should consist of sharp and precise movements as well as dance choreography.

Clogging: Any routine that consists of clogging technique with the use of clogging shoes.

Character Routine: Any routine that interprets a distinct character throughout the routine.

Folkloric: Any routine that portrays an ethnic style of dance.

Open: Any routine that incorporates any dance styles or any combination of styles. Gymnastic passes allowed.

Production: Any routine that incorporates a group of at least fifteen dancers and a performance time minimum of five minutes (5:00) and not more than eight minutes (8:00).

Professional/Amateur (Pro/Am): Any dancer age 20 and over who are or have been teachers or assistant teachers or professional dancers must compete in this category. Any group routine with one dancer who falls into this category must compete in this category. This category is not eligible for overall awards.
Student Choreography: Any routine choreographed 100% by the student performer. Gymnastic passes allowed.

Variety: Any routine that incorporates any dance styles or combination of styles, no gymnastic passes.

*Please note that Adult Age Categories are not eligilbe for overall placement.

 
Scoring & Awards

Each routine number will receive a trophy. The scoring system for category awards (from highest score to lowest) is as follows: Platinum, High Gold, Gold and Silver. Each of these awards is determined by a set amount of points. There may be multiple winners within a category. During the awards ceremony, the award will be announced as well as the category winner and the overall winners in the division. The high point and solo Title winners include these age groups:  PETITE (8 and under), JUNIOR (9-12), TEEN (13-15), and SENIOR (16-18). Judges Awards are given out during every awards ceremony for special recognition of superior talent.

Jazz, Lyrical, and Tap categories will be judged as a separate ages (i.e. Jazz 5 or Jazz 6 will not be judged as Jazz 5-6).

In the event that a dancer in a group cannot perform due to injury the group may still perform in the same division they originally registered.

Cash awards will be given to the highest scoring 1st overall solo, duo/trio and group in each overall awards.  To attain a cash award there must be a 1st-10th overall placement in each division and at least 10 entries in each age division.  The cash awards are as follows: 

Top Scoring Solo- $50
Top Scoring Duo/Trio- $75
Top Scoring Small Group- $75
Top Scoring Large Group/Line- $100

 
Entry Fees

SOLO: $65 per routine

DUET/TRIO: $75 per routine

SMALL & LARGE GROUPS:  $28 per dancer

LINES & PRODUCTIONS: $28 per dancer

TITLE: $25 per solo entry. Title entries are accepted the day of the competition, before the start of the dancer's category. Vocal category is not eligible for Title.  Title winners are the Directors' Choice and are not based on the NO LIMIT point scale. Title winners will receive a gift certificate to the Gotta-Have-It Boutique, a crown (girls), a trophy and may be featured in the next season's NO LIMIT program, brochure and/or web site

PHOTOGENIC: $20 first photo, $10 each additional photo per contestant. Photgenic entries are accepted the day of the competition, before the awards ceremony for the performer's age. The parent may submit a quality 8x10 head or body shot with the contestants name, age and studio name on the back of the photo. Headshots are recommended. Photos will be judged based on quality of photo and age appropriateness. The winning photos cannot not be returned and may be featured in the NO LIMIT program, brochure and/or website.

Please submit one studio check or cashiers check per studio. All entry fees are non-refundable. No refunds will be issued unless the competition is cancelled.

 
 
Additional Information

Each studio is allowed one videographer.  This videographer needs to wear the badge given to the studio director in the welcome packet..  Smoking is prohibited in the competition area.

By participating in this competition all contestants give their consent of images, picture or any other form of electronic recording to be used by NO LIMIT Dance Competition for advertising or any other commercial purpose.

Contestants will be judged by a panel of competent judges, and all entrants agree that the time, manner, and method of judging the contest shall be solely within the discretion of the directors and producers of NO LIMIT Dance Competition and that all decisions made by the judges are final.

All judges score sheets, music and photographs must be picked up at the event.

NO LIMIT reserves the right to cancel any competition due to weather, number of entries, or any other circumstance deemed necessary.  NO LIMIT reserves the right to add additional competition days or move the competition location due to unforeseen circumstances. The competition will be confirmed 21 days prior to the event.  If travel is required it is advised that your studio make travel arrangements no sooner than 21 days prior to the event.

Sportsmanlike behavior is expected at all times.  Failure to display proper decorum could result in immediate disqualification.

Participants and attendees are expected to recognize the risks of physical injury innate to dance and dance performances. All contestants and attendees must be willing to assume those risks. Upon entering this event it is agreed that participants and attendees will not hold NO LIMIT Dance Competition or its employees liable for any injuries sustained or any illnesses contracted while in attendance and/or performing in any activity related to a NO LIMIT Dance Competition event.
